Every particle of spray and rosebud and hair

image00110Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Luke 12:6-7)

I believe that every particle of dust that dances in the sunbeam does not move an atom more or less than God wishes — that every particle of spray that dashes against the steamboat has its orbit, as well as the sun in the heavens — that the chaff from the hand of the winnower is steered as the stars in their courses.  The creeping of an aphid over the rosebud is as much fixed as the march of the devastating pestilence — the fall of … leaves from a poplar is as fully ordained as the tumbling of an avalanche.

(Charles Spurgeon, “God’s Providence,” sermon on Ezekiel 1:15-19 in 1908 – this excerpt from John Piper’s Desiring God, p. 344)

About Jill

I'm a wife, mom to three beautiful children, and work as children's ministry director at Redeemer PCA in Athens, GA, a place our family treasures as our church home. It's been thirty years since the Lord saved me, and to this day I'm astounded at His steadfast love shed upon unfaithful me. My hope would be that I might speak and write in ways God would use to soften hearts toward Him, that we would together be enamored by the glorious beauty of Jesus and awakened to His love unimagined. Thanks so much for reading!

I am reading 2 entries so far with coffee in hand. I am thrilled to have a way to “spend time with an old friend” talking about what sustains us and the unimaginable love God has for us. It has a flavor of old times way back at Auburn when we would talk about the love of God that Betty would be instilling in our lives.
Love you sister! I look forward to your entries!

Oh Berly, how happy it makes me, too, that His good plan for my life would include you! Years and years, dear sister, of stumbling in the dark together, and now years and years of knowing His faithfulness together — how kind He is to have planned that I would know you first as a dear friend and then as a sister in Christ!
