little starfish smiles

Maybe I’ve been to too many children’s programs at too many aquariums, or watched too many kid’s movies with casts of talking fish, but this little starfish, floating in her happy world of blue and green and purple, speaks to my heart.

She’s just a little undersea creature, wafting about in the wake of massive white whales and acrobatic manta rays. And in the ocean kingdom, she’s not especially unique: She has millions of starfish cousins dancing about in salt water all over our amazing planet. But I think she’s important.

I think she’s bursting with weighty news we should stop and hear. I think — with her golden starfish smile, and her graceful little shape, and well, with her very existence — she, along with every other creature in heaven and on earth and in the sea, declares the magnificence of God.

And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying,

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”

Revelation 5:13

Thank you, Father, for this little starfish, caught in her starfish moment, who, by her very existence, brings a smile to my face. Thank you that, when I see little her, You kindle within little me the desire that blessing and honor and glory be Yours forever and ever!

About Jill

I'm a wife, mom to three beautiful children, and work as children's ministry director at Redeemer PCA in Athens, GA, a place our family treasures as our church home. It's been thirty years since the Lord saved me, and to this day I'm astounded at His steadfast love shed upon unfaithful me. My hope would be that I might speak and write in ways God would use to soften hearts toward Him, that we would together be enamored by the glorious beauty of Jesus and awakened to His love unimagined. Thanks so much for reading!
